Sarcopenia is muscle you can lose quietly.
Screening looks at muscle mass, strength, and function before the loss shows up as frailty. The useful part is still the plan after the numbers.
Sarcopenia screening evaluates age-related loss of muscle mass, strength, and function.
A typical look uses objective data from DEXA body composition, plus simple function measures such as grip strength and gait speed. The point is to notice muscle decline before it owns your mobility.
It can help you:
- See muscle loss earlier than a scale will
- Watch lean mass over time
- Talk plainly about falls, frailty, and injury risk with your physician
- Point exercise and nutrition at the right problem
Risk rises with age, especially later in life. That is not a reason to wait for a crisis. It is a reason to measure while you can still change the trajectory.
After the screen
Sarcopenia is part of the muscular / frailty plan on the what now page: we read the lean-mass story, decide on strength and protein, then re-measure composition — usually around 90 days.
A dietitian will be on site beginning in October if food is part of that plan.
