FibroScan: A Simple Way to Understand Your Liver Health
A quick, noninvasive test that helps us look at the health of your liver — stiffness and fat — and identify changes before significant liver damage develops. FibroScan is in our building and available through the Veritas Clinic.

Why is a FibroScan helpful?
Your liver works hard every day to support your metabolism, digestion, hormone balance, detoxification, and overall health. Liver problems can develop silently, often without symptoms.
A FibroScan is a quick, noninvasive test that helps us look at the health of your liver and identify changes before significant liver damage develops.
What does a FibroScan measure?
FibroScan uses painless ultrasound-based technology to assess two important aspects of liver health:
- Liver stiffness — Measures how stiff your liver tissue is. Increased stiffness can be associated with fibrosis (scar tissue) and, when advanced, cirrhosis.
- Liver fat — Measures the amount of fat in the liver. Excess liver fat is commonly associated with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), previously called fatty liver disease.
Why does this matter?
Liver health is closely connected to metabolic health. Liver fat and fibrosis can be associated with conditions such as:
- Insulin resistance and prediabetes
- Type 2 diabetes
- Elevated triglycerides or cholesterol
- Overweight or obesity
- High blood pressure
- Metabolic syndrome
The important thing is that you can have fatty liver or early fibrosis without feeling sick.
On the Tune Me pathway, a DEXA body-composition visit often comes first. When the metabolic or visceral-fat picture warrants a closer look at the liver, FibroScan is the next clinic measurement. FibroScan is in our building and available through the Veritas Clinic. See also the VAT metabolic story.
How can a FibroScan help on your health journey?
Establish a baseline. Your FibroScan gives us a snapshot of your liver health so we can monitor changes over time.
Identify potential problems early. Finding increased liver fat or stiffness may allow us to investigate the cause and address risk factors before more advanced liver disease develops.
Track your progress. If you are working on weight loss, nutrition, exercise, blood sugar, cholesterol, or other metabolic goals, a FibroScan can provide another objective measure of your progress.
Personalize your plan. Your results can help your healthcare provider determine whether additional testing, lifestyle changes, monitoring, or referral to a liver specialist may be appropriate.
What is the test like?
FibroScan is:
- Noninvasive
- Painless
- Quick (max of 15 minutes)
- No needles or anesthesia
- Performed while you are lying down
- Uses technology similar to ultrasound
Your shirt will need to be raised to expose the lower right ribcage. You will need to fast from food and liquid for 3 hours before the test for the most reliable measurement.
Remember: Your liver can improve
For many people, liver health is closely connected to modifiable factors such as nutrition, physical activity, body weight, alcohol intake, and metabolic health.
A FibroScan isn’t simply looking for a problem — it can help us understand where you are starting and guide your health journey moving forward.
Your health journey is about more than a number on the scale. Improving metabolic health can benefit your liver, heart, blood sugar, energy, and long-term health. A FibroScan gives us another tool to measure and monitor that progress.
Talk with the clinic to determine whether a FibroScan is appropriate for you. FibroScan is in our building and available through the Veritas Clinic.
